Worship Director - Ballantyne Campus

Department: Media and Communications
Location: Charlotte, NC

This position will be responsible for collaborating with the music and production teams to oversee worship at a specific FHC campus. This position contextualizes the mission, vision, and values of corporate worship at Forest Hill Church.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Lead of Worship and Campus Pastor to lead and support teams in the design, execution, and evaluation of weekend worship experiences and corresponding campus events.
  • Collaborate in the creative design of weekend worship experiences.
  • Lead the congregation in worship on the weekends and other worship gatherings.
  • Lead worship for Sunday services for a minimum of 44 weeks annually.
  • Provide coaching and guidance of contract and volunteer personnel in worship.
  • Lead, develop and manage Contracted Musical Director at the campus.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, peers, direct reports and support personnel to achieve common goals.
  • Manage campus worship budget.
  • Coordinate and lead vocal and instrumental rehearsals.
  • Recruit, audition, and facilitate the development of all stage personnel.
  • Recruit manage, shepherd and develop at least one student.
  • Support the worship/music needs in pastoral functions and special emphases of the church.
  • Provide relief and support to other campus worship teams as needed.
  • Actively seek out and build relationships with musicians and vocalists with an emphasis on developing spiritual life, musical skills, and involvement in Forest Hill worship.
  • Maintain spiritual leadership and a pastoral heart while leading and engaging with volunteers, contractors, and fellow staff.
  • Identify and develop contract musicians both in musical excellence and worship philosophy.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education: Associates degree or higher education preferred.
  • Experience: At least two years of experience leading adults in worship within a large church. Experience in worship music composition, arrangements, both vocally and instrumentally. Experience with music tracking software (such as Logic, Garage Band) and online task management and database programs (such as Planning Center Online). Ability to communicate goals and details to team members and maintain confidentiality.
  • Organized, able to work on tight deadlines, able to be flexible with change, feedback, and constructive criticism.
  • Skills: Proficiency in leading vocally, performing and mastery of at least one lead instrument. Competence in a variety of styles of musical composition, arrangements and performance. Diverse knowledge of musical styles and the ability to deliver diverse musical performances. Strong vocal and instrumental ability. Ability to perform in front of large groups. Ability to lead congregations to authentically engage God in music worship.
  • Competent understanding of the biblical/theological foundations of Christian worship.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop others. Competence in managing work schedule and completing assignments in a timely and self-directed fashion.
  • Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of com project management software (or transferrable experience) and broadcast video/audio standards. Familiarity with protocols, set etiquette, and reporting relationships while on video productions.
  • Personal Qualities: Compassionate, empathetic, and respectful. A strong commitment to the values and mission of Forest Hill Church. Capable of handling sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism. Demonstrate passion for serving the local church and engaging all generations through Bible principles and essentials

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities. This job will be responsible for the recruitment and supervision of volunteer and contract musicians and vocalists.
