Fort Mill Disability Inclusion Ministry Coordinator

Role Overview:
The Disability Inclusion Coordinator will play a crucial role in supporting individuals and families with disabilities within the Fort Mill Campus of Forest Hill Church. This position responds to the growing needs of families in this community and ensures that ministry programs and environments are accessible and supportive for all. The coordinator will work closely with Fort Mill campus team and the Director of Disability Inclusion Ministry to align goals and implement Forest Hill Church’s Disability Inclusion Ministry blueprint while engaging families and volunteers.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Program Support:
    • Ensure effective support for children and students with disabilities in NextGen programs.
    • Adapt curriculum materials to meet the needs of diverse learners.
    • Provide accommodations for children with disabilities.
    • Be present on Sunday mornings to care for, lead, and plan with families of special needs children.
    • Attend pre-service huddles to foster connections between volunteers and one-on-one buddies, creating a smoother Sunday morning experience
  2. Sensory Room Management:
    • Resource and maintain the sensory room, ensuring it meets the needs of children requiring sensory support.
  3. Volunteer Management:
    • Recruit, onboard, and equip volunteer one-on-one buddies for children with disabilities.
    • Implement ongoing training and support for volunteers to enhance their effectiveness.
  4. Family Engagement:
    • Welcome new special needs families and collaborate with them and the campus team to foster connection and support within the church community.
    • Maintain relationships with families and support their connection with volunteers to foster ongoing support.
    • Plan and execute Disability Inclusion-specific events such as Friendsiving.
    • Collaborate with the DI director to execute rEcess respite nights at FM.
  5. Collaboration and Meetings:
    • Participate in 242 days, campus meetings, Kids Ministry meetings, and Youth meetings to stay informed about vision, programming, events, and initiatives.
    • Integrate disability inclusion efforts with overall campus ministry activities.
    • Collaborate with the Disability Inclusion Director and adult campus team as campus needs expand to adult ministry environments.
  6. Community Partners:
    • Collaborate with the Disability Inclusion Ministry Director to coordinate efforts with potential community partners, including Winthrop and York Tech, to engage professionals in campus volunteer opportunities and resources.
  7. Professional Development:
    • Prioritize spiritual development and growth in disability ministry best practices.
    • Participate in the ForCLT Disability Awareness Network and York County Disability Network meetings
    • Attend the Disability in the Church annual conference.

**Qualifications:**

- Bachelor's degree in a related field such as Special Education, Disability Studies, Social Work, or a relevant discipline.
- Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities in a ministry, non-profit, or community setting.
- Strong knowledge of disability rights laws, accommodations, and accessibility standards.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and lead inclusive initiatives effectively.
- Understanding of the intersectionality of disability and other forms of diversity.
- Passion for promoting inclusion, diversity, and equity within a faith-based context.
